Young people with care experience took centre stage at a vibrant awards ceremony in Belfast last Friday (20 February), celebrating their achievements, resilience and impact across Northern Ireland.
Organised by VOYPIC – Voice of Young People in Care, the annual Care Day Awards brought together inspiring young people from across the region. Hosted in the iconic Ulster Museum and compered by BBC journalist Mark Simpson, the event recognised outstanding contributions across a range of categories.
Now in its third year, the awards continue to shine a spotlight on the talent, determination and positive influence of care-experienced young people. This year’s event was sponsored by the Safeguarding Board for Northern Ireland, with support from the Department of Health Northern Ireland.
Speaking at the ceremony, VOYPIC Chief Executive Alicia Toal praised the young people honoured on the night:
“It has been an absolute joy to hear all the inspiring stories and to celebrate the incredible things care-experienced young people are achieving across our community.
To every young person, whether you received an award tonight or not, congratulations. You inspire us every day. It is a real honour to work on your behalf.”
Alongside the young award winners, three dedicated “Care Heroes” were also recognised, adults who have gone above and beyond to support and champion young people in care.
The Care Day Awards continue to highlight the strength, talent and potential of care-experienced young people, offering a powerful reminder of the difference they are making every day.
