Care Day 22
Care Day 22, our seventh celebration of CARE DAY, took place on Friday 18 February 2022, on the theme Together we create community.
What is Care Day?
CARE DAY is the world’s biggest celebration of children and young people with care experience. This group includes children and young people who are or were cared for by foster carers, or other family members, and those who live in children’s homes. They deserve to be celebrated, on CARE DAY, and every day.
The first CARE DAY took place in 2016. It began in the UK and Ireland as a joint initiative across five children’s rights charities: Voice of Young People in Care (Northern Ireland), Become (England), Empowering People in Care (Ireland), Voices from Care (Wales) and Who Cares? Scotland. CARE DAY takes place on the third Friday of February, every year.
Conversations with the Care Community
Every year, we celebrate Care Day with our friends in the 5 Nations 1 Voice Alliance, by holding a joint event. This year we hosted a special online space for young people with experience of care: Conversations with the Care Community.
Young people from VOYPIC joined with our partner organisations across the five nations, Become, EPIC, VFCC and Who Cares? Scotland, to host discussions focused on four key themes: education, sports and hobbies, accessing information, and leaving care. Listen to a special podcast recording of their discussions.
Care Day in your area
Northern: Sing along to ‘Sing 2’
Together we create community, at the movies! A special morning, big-screen viewing of a new short film created by care experienced young people at VOYPIC, then a party with a sing-along screening of the brand new movie ‘Sing 2’. Care experienced young people, foster families, children’s homes and care leavers welcome. Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.

Belfast / South Eastern: Care Day Fun Day
Together we create community, with fun and games! An action-packed party, with giant inflatable games, a petting zoo, freestyle football, digital arts and some yummy food!

Southern: Care Day Splat Attack
Together we create community, by going on an adventure! A high-fun, low-velocity paintball session. Splat Attack uses special paintball guns that splat on the back, rather than fire at speed. Get loaded up in full camo gear, then stick around for pizza and treats with the VOYPIC team! Open to young people with experience of care, aged 10 to 13.

Western: Jump into Care Day
Together we create community, by jumping in! How high can you jump? An exclusive afternoon of xtreme bouncing, with two full hours for practice, snacks and ice-cream to refuel, a special Care Day goodie bag and some awesome prizes up for grabs! Open to young people with experience of care, their families and carers.

Life is better when we all work together. We want you to design a ‘helping hand’ on the theme ‘Together we create community’, to help celebrate Care Day 22. Get creative and show us how you think we can create community together, to make life better for young people with experience of care.
