Care Day

What is CARE DAY?

CARE DAY is the world’s biggest celebration of children and young people with care experience. This group includes children and young people who are or were cared for by foster carers, or other family members, and those who live in children’s homes. They deserve to be celebrated, on CARE DAY, and every day.

The first CARE DAY took place in 2016. It began in the UK and Ireland as a joint initiative across five children’s rights charities.

  • Voice of Young People in Care (Northern Ireland)
  • Become (England)
  • Empowering People in Care (Ireland)
  • Voices from Care (Wales)
  • Who Cares? Scotland (Scotland)

CARE DAY takes place on the third Friday of February, every year.

We are delighted to announce our seventh celebration of CARE DAY! This year, CARE DAY will take place on Friday 18 February, on the theme:

Together we create community

Care Day provides us a special day each year to celebrate young people with lived experience of care. We are working on the the full schedule of activities and events for the celebration. Click the button below to sign up to get all the info straight to you inbox!

Every year, we celebrate Care Day with our friends in the 5 Nations 1 Voice Alliance, by holding a joint event. This year we hosted a special online space for young people with experience of care: Conversations with the Care Community.

Young people from VOYPIC joined with our partner organisations across the five nations – BecomeEPICVFCC Who Cares? Scotland– to host discussions focused on four key themes:

Education

Sports & Hobbies

Accessing Information

Leaving Care

Once again, public health restrictions mean we are unable to hold our big, regional Care Day celebration event.

However, we will still be celebrating the day with a range of smaller events in each of the areas. Join our teams in Belfast, Lurgan, Antrim and Derry-Londonderry for fun Care Day activities.

Together we create community, at the movies!
