Care Day 24
Care Day 24, our ninth annual CARE DAY, took place on Friday 16 February 2024.
What is Care Day?
CARE DAY is the world’s biggest celebration of children and young people with care experience. This group includes children and young people who are or were cared for by foster carers, or other family members, and those who live in children’s homes. They deserve to be celebrated, on CARE DAY, and every day.
The first CARE DAY took place in 2016. It began in the UK and Ireland as a joint initiative across five children’s rights charities: Voice of Young People in Care (Northern Ireland), Become (England), Empowering People in Care (Ireland), Voices from Care (Wales) and Who Cares? Scotland. CARE DAY takes place on the third Friday of February, every year.
Care Day Awards
Care Day is all about celebrating and connecting young people with lived experience of care. This year, we wanted to recognise care experienced young people who have had a significant achievement, or who have made a contribution to their community.
Nominations have now closed. Winners were announced on Care Day, Friday 16 February.
Care Day Fun Day
Our big Care Day Fun Day returned for 2024, with activities, food and fun for children and young people with lived experience of care and the families and carers who support them. Click the poster for all the details.
Hands Up for Care Day
We’re asking you to put your ‘Hands Up for Care Day’. This means writing #CareDay24 on the palm of your hand, then sharing a selfie of it on your social media channels, on Friday 16 February.
This year, take the photo somewhere that shows where you are, if it is safe for you to do so: a local landmark, outside your office, or a comfy chair in your house. Somewhere that means something to you. We want to show that there is support for young people with lived experience of care in every corner of the UK and Ireland, especially here in Northern Ireland.
