We’re always looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help with our work. While we have offices in Belfast, Derry-Londonderry, Lurgan and Ballymena, we have volunteering opportunities right across Northern Ireland.

Volunteers come from all walks of life, bringing different skills and experiences. You don’t need to have any specific qualifications, or any specific experience to volunteer at VOYPIC. The most important thing is having an interest in, and commitment to, supporting young people with lived experience of care.

For information on our next induction training for new volunteers, contact Geraldine on geraldine.mcguigan@voypic.org

What do VOYPIC Volunteers do?

At the moment, we are recruiting Volunteer Mentors. Mentors provide individual support to a young people leaving care, helping them connect with their local community and prepare for independent living. Check out our Volunteer Mentor Information Pack.

What support and training do volunteers get?

As well as a full induction to the organisation, including safeguarding training, all volunteers receive:

  • Role specific training, as appropriate
  • Support from a named member of the VOYPIC team, including regular support and supervision sessions
  • Access to VOYPIC in-house training opportunities
  • Membership of MyVOYPIC, with regular updates about VOYPIC’s work, activities and opportunities.

How do I become a VOYPIC volunteer?

We’re delighted you want to volunteer at VOYPIC! The first step is to fill in a short Interest Form. You can click the blue button on the left to complete the form online, or the yellow button on the right to download and print the form:

Once we receive your form, we’ll contact you to arrange an informal interview. This is a chance to have a chat about VOYPIC and what you want to get out of volunteering with us. This is not a selection process or a test; it’s simply to help us work out how to make the most of your time volunteering with us.

As mentors provide direct support to children and young adults, all mentors are required to undertake an Access NI (criminal records) check before taking on the role. We also ask that you provide two references who know you but are not related to you, who can be contacted if required. Where possible, one should be a current or former employer, an organisation you recently volunteered with, or a college, university or training organisation you have recently attended.
