I wanted to share my excitement and inspiration drawn from my visit to Montenegro. I arrived last Thursday (12 May) to a very warm welcome from UNICEF and Nikad Sami Uvijek Svoi, the new VOYPIC of Montenegro.  Nikad Sami Uvijek Svoji translates as Never Alone, Always Our Own. It was like being transported back 23 years to our own very humble beginnings.

I worked with Kristina and Sandra, two young people, helping them to prepare for their first ever public speech launching their new organisation.  Friday was conference day. The first ever research into leaving care entitled “It’s hard when the door shuts behind you” was launched by Kristina and Sandra. They were brilliant.  The media attended and first interviews given.  It was then onto the British Embassy for a one to one with the Ambassador, Ian Whitting.  On Saturday, I was delighted to be asked to work with the young people and share our history and discuss their plans to go forward.

A study visit is now being planned. Kristina, Sandra and Stojanka will be visiting us at the end of June/start of July. They'll be attending our graduation on Thursday night (30 June) is a definite, the rest of the agenda is to be decided. However one things is for sure - they have requested a visit to McDonalds not available in Montenegro. Right I'm off to brush up on my Montenegrin!
