MONDAY MORNING REVIEW OF THE WEEK AHEAD

By 9:30 this morning, I was accused of being too cheery for a Monday!  My reaction was - what’s not to smile about?!  Here’s the checklist - last week Maeve McLaughlin, MLA joined us for her NI Assembly Community Connect Fellowship, the sun shone all weekend, I’d just had a lovely Five Nations, One Voice conference call and most importantly of all – this Thursday we have our young people’s graduation in Cookstown.    All set out in front of me by 9:30 this morning!

Last week ended on a high.  On Friday the Chair of the Health Committee, Maeve McLaughlin MLA spent the day with us.  A bunch of young people and our Western Area Team explored the critical issues for children in care and care leavers with her.  We started by sharing our hopes, fears and expectations for her Fellowship day.  From the get go, the young people were loud and clear that they wanted to have a positive outcome from the event.  Maeve has already emailed me this morning and - true to her word - she has taken action.  Watch this space for exciting news ahead.

Next - the weekend.   I’ve kept up my training for Mud Madness.  I’m a bit like Rocky – I like to mix it up with regular tasks and activities so I chopped wood with my new axe! Fact is, I’m gonna need lots of upper body strength to trail myself out of the mud holes in this challenge!  It’s all in a good cause to support two VOYPIC campaigns - our Family Fun Day in August and the Suited and Booted VOYPIGGY Bank.

My target to raise is £5,000 – I’ve already got pledges for £577.25.  Please make a donation http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/voypiggymudteam - it all adds up.

You can read more about the Suited and Booted campaign in my Blog post on 9 March.

And now the week ahead.  I’m most excited about our graduation on Thursday 25th March.   For me, it is THE event of the VOYPIC year.  Gala ball theme this year and the message is “dress to impress”. We’re looking forward to welcoming the new Commissioner for Children and Young People – Koulla –and to have her celebrate the achievements of children in care and care leavers with us.

Gifts of bow ties and corsages for boys and girls of all ages but as usual, the big question for me is what to wear – timeless tux or glam dress?
