Mentoring Beach Clean

Tuesday, 20 March 2012 10:40

Young people involved in our mentoring service in the Western Health and Social Care Trust recently carried out a litter pick session on Benone Strand outside Coleraine. The work was carried out in partnership with Tidy NI as part of the Clean Coast programme. The event was sponsored by Coca-Cola and the events team was there to encourage the young people and to provide Coca-Cola on tap.

Young people spent the afternoon practising their surfing skills. A young person, aged 15 said "I never thought litter picking would be so much fun."

Two years ago this valuable environmental contribution was recognised when young people received Highly Commended in The Best Youth Group Award category of the Clean Coasts Awards 2009. This year's group of young people have been entered for an award.
