Introducing Fiona, one of our super #voypicvolunteers

Monday, 05 June 2017 09:15

It's #volunteersweek (1 - 7 June) so we thought we'd do a shout out to one of board members, Fiona. Read more about why she got involved with us and wearing a pink wig!

I've been a Board member for a year and a half and I absolutely love being part of VOYPIC. So far I've never missed a meeting – they feed me pizza – it works every time!

Why VOYPIC? In a nut shell, VOYPIC stands for everything I'm interested and passionately believe in . My parents were foster carers so I had the absolute joy of sharing our home with some wonderful babies and children. I passionately believe in giving children and young people a voice. I have mentored three young people and co-ordinated a student mentoring project. In my current job, many years ago, I had the pleasure of assessing VOYPIC for the Investing in Volunteers award and was impressed by the organisation and the work its staff and volunteers did! I couldn't believe my luck when I did a Google search for Board member roles and discovered VOYPIC was recruiting!

Highlights so far? Wearing a pink wig while rocking to Rockaoke at #careday 2016! (It's really serious business this Board stuff!)

One thing I've learnt about children and young people in care ... VOYPIC offers super support and a real voice for our children and young people but it's the strength, determination, passion and forward thinking attitude of our children and young people that make them truly amazing!

Film or Book? Film - comedy or a kid's movie. Scary movies are strictly banned!

Ice cream or Chocolate? Chocolate - technically chocolate ice cream fits into this too!

Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings? Harry Potter

Drive or walk? Walk – well, usually running pushing my toddler in a pram to get my daughter to school on time!

Sweet or savoury? Savoury – love food – did I mention pizza at Board meetings?
